Guess your secret identity through questions from other participants.

Duration · 5 min
Participants · 5–20
Level · Beginner

Guess What I Am is an interactive game where each participant must guess the word stuck to their back by asking questions to others. This game promotes communication, active listening, and collaboration within the group while being fun and engaging. It also helps to break the ice and strengthen team cohesion.

Walkthrough

  1. 1

    Introduction and Setup

    10 min

The facilitator explains the rules of the game: each participant will have a word stuck to their back that they must guess by asking closed questions (yes or no answers) to others. Participants must not reveal each other's words. Distribute a post-it with a word to each participant and discreetly place it on their back.

TipChoose words that are relevant to the group's context to facilitate engagement and avoid frustration.

  2. 2

    Start of the Game

    15 min

Participants begin to move around the room and ask others questions to guess the word on their back. Encourage them to ask varied questions and listen carefully to the answers. The facilitator circulates to ensure everyone is participating and to provide encouragement.

TipEncourage shy participants by asking them a few questions to help them get started.

  3. 3

    Additional Help

    5 min

If some participants are struggling to progress, the facilitator can give hints or encourage others to ask more targeted questions. The goal is to maintain a positive dynamic and prevent anyone from feeling stuck.

TipPrepare a few hints in advance for the more difficult words so you can assist quickly.

  4. 4

    Conclusion of the Game

    10 min

When the majority of participants have guessed their word, gather the group to share the results. Each participant announces the word they guessed and, if they wish, can share a question or answer that helped them.

TipCongratulate each participant for their perseverance and creativity in the questions asked.

  5. 5

    Group Feedback

    10 min

Ask participants to share their feelings about the game: what they liked, what was difficult, and what they learned about communication. This helps reinforce learning and concludes the activity on a positive note.

TipTake note of the feedback to improve the next session and thank participants for their active involvement.

Variants

  • Use specific categories (animals, objects, professions) to guide the questions.
  • Limit the number of questions that can be asked to increase the challenge.
  • Add a timer for each round of questions to energise the game.
