Team Metrics Dashboard Workshop

Co-create a metrics dashboard for your team.

Duration · 90 min
Participants · 4–10
Level · Intermediate

This workshop enables a team to collaboratively define the key performance indicators that will guide their work. The goal is to promote autonomy and continuous improvement based on relevant data. By collaborating on the creation of a dashboard, participants learn to select and interpret the metrics that truly matter, making work and progress visible and understandable.

Walkthrough

  1. 1

    Introduction and Objectives

    10 min

The facilitator begins by explaining the importance of a metrics dashboard and how it can help the team achieve its goals. They clarify that the workshop aims to co-create a visual tool that will make performance and progress visible. Participants are invited to share their expectations for the workshop.

TipUse concrete examples of dashboards to illustrate the positive impact they can have.

  2. 2

    Define Needs

    20 min

The facilitator guides participants through a discussion to identify priority needs: workflow, problems to solve, or performance to track. Each participant notes their ideas on post-its and places them on a board. The team then discusses to prioritise these needs.

TipEncourage open discussion and ensure every voice is heard to reach a consensus on priorities.

  3. 3

    Choose Metrics

    30 min

Based on the identified needs, the team brainstorms specific metrics to include in the dashboard. The facilitator reminds them of the importance of choosing indicators that trigger action. Participants vote to select the 3 to 4 most relevant metrics.

TipLimit the number of metrics to avoid information overload and focus on those with the most impact.

  4. 4

    Dashboard Design

    30 min

Participants work in small groups to sketch the visual layout of the dashboard. Each group presents its design, and the team chooses or combines the best ideas. The facilitator ensures that the dashboard is clear and easy to understand at a glance.

TipUse simple and intuitive visual elements like graphs or colour codes to facilitate understanding.

  5. 5

    Implementation Plan

    20 min

The team discusses the implementation of the dashboard: who will update it, how often, and how it will be integrated into the team's routines. The facilitator emphasises the importance of regular updates to maintain the dashboard's relevance.

TipDecide on a responsible person for each metric to ensure regular updates to the dashboard.

  6. 6

    Conclusion and Commitment

    10 min

The facilitator concludes by summarising the decisions made and asking each participant to commit to a concrete action to use the dashboard. They thank the participants for their collaboration and commitment.

TipEnd with a round where each participant shares their personal commitment to reinforce ownership.

Variants

  • Use a digital tool like Miro or Trello to create a virtual dashboard.
  • Integrate a feedback session after a few weeks of use to adjust the metrics.
  • Organise a monthly review session to discuss trends and adjust the indicators.
