Moving Motivators

Explore your motivations to enhance team engagement and energy.

Duration · 60 min
Participants · 4–15
Level · Beginner

Moving Motivators is a serious game inspired by Management 3.0, designed to explore the intrinsic motivations of participants. This game allows for the identification of concrete actions to support and strengthen motivation within the team, particularly during periods of change or low energy. It helps participants better understand themselves and discover what truly motivates them.

Walkthrough

  1. 1

Introduction and presentation of the cards

    10 min

The facilitator begins by explaining the objective of the game: to explore personal motivations to better understand what drives us to act. They then distribute a set of 10 motivation cards to each participant and briefly explain each card. Participants must then arrange the cards in front of them from left to right, starting with the one that motivates them the least to the one that motivates them the most.

TipUse concrete examples to explain each card to help participants better relate to the proposed motivations.

  2. 2

    Observation of rankings

    3 min

Participants are invited to stand up and move around the room to observe the rankings of others. This creates a moment of exchange and reflection on the diversity of motivations within the team.

TipEncourage participants to ask open-ended questions to others to understand their choices, as this will enrich the exchanges.

  3. 3

    Individual presentation of rankings

    20 min

One by one, participants explain their rankings to the group. They share the reasons for their choices and can respond to questions from others. This fosters a better mutual understanding and uncovers common or divergent motivations.

TipEnsure that each participant has enough time to express themselves and encourage the group to listen actively.

  4. 4

    Identification of activators and deactivators

    15 min

Each participant reflects on what in the current organisation activates or deactivates their motivations. They then adjust the position of their cards based on these reflections, raising or lowering the relevant cards.

TipEncourage participants to be honest and transparent about what influences their motivations in the work environment.

  5. 5

    Determination of concrete actions

    15 min

The team gathers to discuss concrete actions that could be implemented to increase everyone's motivation. Ideas are shared and discussed to create a list of possible actions to test.

TipFacilitate the discussion by noting ideas on a visible board for all, and ensure that every voice is heard.

Variants

  • Use post-it notes for each participant to write an example of a situation where each motivation is activated.
  • Organise a pair discussion where each participant explains their ranking to a colleague before presenting it to the group.
  • Add a step where participants imagine future scenarios where their motivations could be fully satisfied.
