Walkthrough

  1. 1

    Opening and Context Presentation

    30 min

The facilitator opens the session by presenting the context of PI Planning. They explain the importance of the event and the objectives to be achieved. "Today, we will align our efforts for the coming weeks. Our goal is to create a realistic and shared plan." Participants listen and take note of the overall objectives.

TipUse visuals to clarify the context and engage participants from the start with an open question.

  2. 2

    Product Vision Presentation

    20 min

The Product Manager or Product Owner presents the product vision. They outline the main features of the product and the strategic objectives. "Here is where we want to go and why it is important." Participants ask questions to clarify the vision and ensure they share a common understanding.

TipEncourage questions to ensure everyone has a clear and shared understanding of the vision.

  3. 3

    Feature Identification and Prioritisation

    40 min

Teams identify the features to be developed and prioritise them. The facilitator guides discussions to ensure that priorities are clear and aligned with the vision. "What are the most critical items to develop first?" Teams discuss and agree on the priorities.

TipUse voting techniques or dot-voting to facilitate collective prioritisation.

  4. 4

    Iteration Planning

    1h

Each team plans its iterations in detail. The facilitator encourages teams to identify and resolve dependencies. "Make sure you understand the dependencies with other teams." Teams create iteration plans considering constraints and dependencies.

TipProvide visual tools like Kanban boards to help visualise iteration plans.

  5. 5

    Plan Review and Adjustment

    30 min

Teams present their plans and receive feedback. The facilitator facilitates discussions to adjust plans if necessary. "Are there any adjustments needed to align our efforts?" Teams adjust their plans based on feedback.

TipEncourage open and constructive dialogue so that adjustments are accepted by all.

  6. 6

    Final Commitment and Closure

    20 min

Teams formally commit to the final plan. The facilitator closes the session by reaffirming the commitments made and thanking participants. "We have a solid and shared plan, thank you all for your commitment." Participants leave the session with a clear understanding of the next steps.

TipEnd on a positive note by highlighting the successes of the session and motivating teams for the future.
