The Agile Maze
Navigate the maze to enhance cooperation and innovation.
The Agile Maze is a serious game that tests a team's cooperation to solve a complex path. In silence, participants must discover and memorise a hidden route through a grid marked on the ground. This game stimulates non-verbal communication and creative problem-solving.
Walkthrough
- 1
Preparing the Ground
15 minThe facilitator marks a grid on the ground with painter's tape, depending on the size of the team (for example, 5x7 for a team of 9 people). Each square must be large enough for a person to stand in. A secret exit path is numbered by the facilitator.
Tip — Ensure the grid is clearly visible and stable to avoid any confusion during the game.
- 2
Introduction and Rules
10 minThe facilitator explains the rules: each participant must cross the maze in silence, one at a time. If a participant steps on an incorrect square, they must return to the start. No tools or verbal communication are allowed. The facilitator positions themselves at the end of the maze to give directions.
Tip — Use a clear tone and ensure that each participant fully understands the rules before starting.
- 3
Defining the Strategy
10 minThe team has 10 minutes to establish a collective strategy before starting the game. They can discuss and plan how to approach the maze while adhering to the game rules.
Tip — Encourage the team to think of non-verbal ways to help each other, such as gestures or visual signals.
- 4
Solving the Maze
30 minParticipants begin to solve the maze one by one. The facilitator indicates 'CONTINUE' for a correct square and 'STOP, RETURN TO THE START' for an incorrect square. If a participant attempts to enter twice in a row, the facilitator says 'STOP, NEXT'.
Tip — Be attentive to signs of frustration and offer breaks if necessary to maintain a positive atmosphere.
- 5
Finalising the Path
10 minThe game ends when each team member has successfully crossed the maze. The facilitator congratulates the team for their cooperation and perseverance.
Tip — Celebrate small victories throughout the game to keep participants motivated.
Variants
- Add a timer to create additional time pressure.
- Allow a 2-minute discussion after each unsuccessful attempt to adjust the strategy.
- Increase the size of the grid for a more complex challenge.
